EPA Issues Warning to Medical Facilities on Irresponsible Medical Waste Disposal

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a stern warning to medical facilities regarding the improper disposal of medical waste. Dr. Jackson Adiyaah Nyantakyi, Ashanti Regional Director of the EPA, emphasized that facilities must adhere to the conditions of their environmental permits, which include proper medical waste disposal.

Dr. Nyantakyi stated that failure to comply with these regulations may result in penalties, including facility closure, fines, or legal action. However, he noted that the EPA prefers not to take such measures, as they can negatively impact patients.

In an interview with Angel News, Dr. Nyantakyi urged medical facilities to comply with the law to avoid sanctions. He emphasized that the EPA is willing to work with facilities to ensure proper medical waste management practices are in place, but will take enforcement action if necessary.

The EPA’s warning comes as part of its efforts to address the pressing issue of irresponsible medical waste disposal and protect public health and the environment. Medical facilities are expected to take immediate action to ensure compliance with EPA regulations.
