NPP Running Mate’s Press Aide Clarifies Stance on Mining

Amma Bempomaa Oppong Mensah, Press Aide to Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Running Mate, has provided clarification on the party’s position regarding mining activities. In an interview with OTEC News on September 12, 2024, Oppong Mensah stated that Dr. Prempeh supports responsible and regulated mining practices, while strongly condemning illegal mining activities that harm the environment.

This clarification follows circulating social media reports suggesting Dr. Prempeh promised to release seized excavators of illegal miners if the NPP wins the 2024 election. Oppong Mensah dismissed these reports as misleading and doctored.

The NPP’s stance, as emphasized by Oppong Mensah, prioritizes sustainable and regulated mining practices that benefit the country and its citizens, while maintaining zero tolerance for illegal activities that destroy the environment and put lives at risk.

Oppong Mensah cautioned the public to verify facts before sharing or believing information, especially in light of the upcoming 2024 election, where the NPP has highlighted its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
