Voter Register Crisis: NDC to Hit the Streets

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to stage nationwide protests on September 17, 2024, to express its discontent with the Electoral Commission’s (EC) handling of discrepancies in the voter register. The party identified several irregularities during the recent voter exhibition exercise and requested a forensic audit, which was denied by the EC.

Following the submission of presidential nomination forms for John Mahama, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah revealed the party’s decision to organize a nationwide protest. On September 17, protesters will march to regional EC offices in all 16 regional capitals, while national executives will present a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.

Asiedu Nketiah emphasized the importance of the protest, stating, “We will embark on a massive nationwide demonstration to demand that the EC conducts itself in a manner that guarantees a peaceful, free, and fair election.”

The NDC’s protests aim to highlight the need for a credible voter register and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
