In the wake of Ghana’s stunning 1-0 loss to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is calling for improvement, not excuses. Despite the poor condition of the Baba Yara pitch, which hindered his team’s performance, Addo refused to point fingers.
“I don’t want to blame the pitch for our defeat,” Addo said in his post-match press conference. “We’ve played on tough pitches before and still managed to win. We need to do better.”
The loss was a tough pill to swallow, with Ghana dominating possession but failing to capitalize on their chances. A late mistake proved costly, as Angola’s Felicio Joao Milson snatched a last-minute winner.
However, Addo remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances of qualification. “The second half gives me confidence that we can turn things around. We still have to face all the teams in the group, and it’s all in our hands.”
Ghana will look to bounce back in their next Group F clash against Niger on September 9 in Morocco. With their AFCON qualifying campaign on the line, the Black Stars must regroup and refocus to revive their hopes.
