NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has assured spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai in the Greater Accra Region that the next NPP government will introduce a simplified tax system to support their businesses. Speaking during a community connect event, Dr. Prempeh promised that the NPP will repeal all 22 taxes and introduce a flat tax rate to create a friendly business environment.
He emphasized the NPP’s commitment to supporting businesses and the private sector through a new tax regime designed to aid businesses and boost economic growth. Dr. Prempeh also highlighted Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision of implementing a Flat Tax Rate for importers to bring predictability and stability to imported goods prices.
The NPP Vice Presidential Candidate criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, for lacking competence to implement a 24-hour economy. He questioned the practicality of allowing nightclubs to operate 24 hours a day, as promised by Mahama.
Dr. Prempeh also announced that the government will provide a tax amnesty to start the new tax system on a clean slate, exempting individuals and businesses from paying taxes for a specified period and waiving interest and penalties for previous years.
The event was attended by the Chief of Abossey Okai, Nii Abossey Okai III, and other party stalwarts, including Henery Okyere Junior, Hon. Henery Egyapa Mercer, and Hon. Atta Kyea.
