The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a warning to the public, urging vigilance when purchasing palm oil due to ongoing concerns about adulteration. Roderick Daddey-Adjei, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, revealed that despite rigorous enforcement measures, some traders are still using the banned ‘Sudan Four’ dye to taint palm oil products, posing a significant public health risk, as reported by citinewsroom.com.
While the FDA has made strides in reducing the prevalence of adulterated palm oil, Daddey-Adjei stressed that even a small amount of contamination is unacceptable. “We are not satisfied with the remaining small percentage, which indicates that some perpetrators are still operating in the shadows. We want to send a clear message to those thinking of continuing this illegal activity that their time is running out. We’ve already made some arrests and handed the suspects over to the police,” he stated.
This caution from the FDA is part of its ongoing efforts to eradicate hazardous substances, particularly the dangerous ‘Sudan Four’ dye, from the market to protect consumer safety.
