The Appeal Court in Kumasi has granted an out-of-court settlement in the dispute arising from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Bosome Freho constituency in the Ashanti Region. The court, presided over by Justice Fredrick Tetteh, allowed the parties involved to pursue an amicable resolution, potentially avoiding prolonged litigation and internal party conflict.
The dispute involved Mr. Yaw Amoah Gyamih, the founder of the NPP in Bosome Freho, and Asafo Agyei Ayeh, the parliamentary candidate-elect. Mr. Victor Owusu, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Council of Elders, welcomed the court’s decision, urging peace in the constituency to help the party achieve its goal of “breaking the 8” in the 2024 general elections.
Mr. Yaw Amoah Gyamih, who initiated the court case, sought fairness and truth, emphasizing that winning the 2024 elections is the ultimate goal for the NPP. Lawyer Clement Opoku Gyamfi, counsel for the parliamentary candidate, described the outcome as a “family issue” and a victory for both the constituency and the NPP as a whole.
The out-of-court settlement provides an opportunity for the parties to resolve their differences amicably, promoting unity and stability within the party.
