WAEC Receives GH¢50m from Gov’t for WASSCE, BECE Exams

In a significant move to support the country’s education sector, the government has released GH¢50 million to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to facilitate the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This disbursement reaffirms the government’s commitment to meeting its financial obligations to WAEC, ensuring that the council’s operations continue uninterrupted. The Ministry of Education emphasized its dedication to creating an environment that fosters high-quality education for all Ghanaian students.

This latest payment follows an earlier disbursement of GH¢47 million in June for the BECE. Initially, WAEC had received only GH₵2.3 million of the GH₵95.83 million debt, prompting the council to request additional funds to conduct the examination and process results.

Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, confirmed the new payment, highlighting the government’s efforts to prioritize education and ensure a seamless examination process for students.
