600 female head porters (kayayei) from Madina and Ashaiman proudly graduated from the Vice President Kayayei Empowerment Program, marking a significant milestone in their journey towards economic independence. The three-week training program, spearheaded by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, equipped the beneficiaries with valuable skills in soap making, bead making, baking, and makeup artistry.
At the graduation ceremony in Accra, NEIP CEO Kofi Ofosu Nkansah highlighted the program’s ambitious goal of training 5,000 kayayei by year-end, emphasizing the importance of empowering youth to become job creators. This initiative aligns with the Vice President’s vision of promoting entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.
Eleiham Habibu, speaking on behalf of the graduates, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vice President Bawumia for his transformative initiative. She assured that the acquired skills would be utilized to make a meaningful impact on their lives and the country, vowing to make the Vice President proud.
This empowering program has added a significant touch to the lives of these kayayei, who play a vital role in Ghana’s informal sector. As they embark on this new journey, they are committed to making a positive impact and contributing to the country’s economic growth.
