After several backlash, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has issued an apology after making a controversial accusation against Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the constituency. Dumelo had implied that Alhassan might have been involved in her husband’s death to gain political power.
The accusation was made during TV3’s community watch program, where Dumelo reacted to NPP supporters who were taunting him over the V8 saga. In response, he stated, “If that is the case, then it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one who killed her husband to become MP. If they want to go that tangent, I will go the same tangent because this time around, it is boot for boot.”
Dumelo’s comments quickly sparked backlash on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where users criticized him for the statement. Following the widespread condemnation, Dumelo took to X to issue an apology, saying, “I apologize and retract the comments I made earlier today on TV3.”
