Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized former President John Mahama’s pledge to “reset” the Ghanaian economy, questioning what exactly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aims to reset the country to.
Addressing a rally at Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Prempeh asked if Mahama’s “reset” means returning to the era of “dumsor” (power outages), canceling the Free SHS program, and abolishing the allowances for teachers and nurses.
He asserted that a “reset” under the NDC would mean reversing the progress made by the current government, including the restoration of allowances for nursing and teacher trainees.
Dr. Prempeh’s comments come after Mahama launched the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, promising to restore the economy through measures such as a national economic dialogue, tax rationalization, and emergency measures to stabilize the Ghana cedi.
The NPP running mate also accused the NDC of being discriminatory and neglecting the development of the Ashanti Region, particularly Atwima Nwabiagya, during their tenure.
He introduced the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Sheila Kyei, and urged the people to vote for her.
The Chief of Nkawie, Nana Kwame Akoto, offered words of counsel to Dr. Prempeh and the NPP.
