Former President John Mahama addressed a rally at Nii Amui Park in Ashaiman, where he issued a stern warning to NPP government officials ahead of the 2024 elections. “If I win the election, as I surely will,” Mahama declared, “I expect those in power to accept the will of the people and cooperate with my administration. They must not attempt to flee or cover up their wrongdoing.”
Mahama drew on his own experience, citing the 2016 election when the NPP won and he faced false accusations. “I didn’t run away or resist investigations,” he said. “I allowed myself to be investigated and was cleared of any wrongdoing. I expect the same from the current officials. If they have nothing to hide, they should welcome the opportunity to prove their innocence, just as I did.”
Mahama also criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for distancing himself from the current government. “It doesn’t make sense for him to exclude himself from Nana Addo’s government,” Mahama said. “I didn’t disassociate myself from former President Atta Mills’ government, and I know Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang won’t do the same. So, why is Bawumia disassociating himself?”
Mahama’s message emphasized the importance of accountability and the rule of law, urging NPP officials to accept the outcome of the election and cooperate with his administration if he wins.
