Arsenal Welcomes Mikel Merino to the Squad

Arsenal FC has announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad on a long-term contract. The 28-year-old joins the Gunners after making 242 appearances for Sociedad, scoring 27 goals and providing 30 assists.

Merino’s impressive career spans across various clubs, including Osasuna, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle United. He played a crucial role in Sociedad’s 2020 Copa del Rey victory and helped the team qualify for the Champions League last season. Merino’s exceptional performance earned him the top spot in Europe’s top leagues for duels won, with an impressive 326 recoveries.

As an experienced international, Merino has made 28 appearances for Spain, winning the European Under-19 Championship, European Under-21 Championship, and the 2023 UEFA Nations League. He also secured an Olympic silver medal and played a vital role in Spain’s European Championship win.

Sporting Director Edu expressed his delight at securing Merino’s signature, highlighting his experience, physicality, and athleticism as valuable assets to the team. Manager Mikel Arteta praised Merino’s technical ability, versatility, and winning mentality, welcoming him to the club.
