NDC ignored my ideas, but NPP welcomed them with open arms – Asamoah Gyan

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) showed little interest in his ideas to improve sports in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) welcomed him.

In a recent interview with actress and TV host Nana Ama McBrown, Gyan addressed speculations about his political affiliations. He shared that although the NPP approached him to contribute his ideas, the NDC never reached out. “We have two major political parties in Ghana, and one did not get the sense to contact me—that’s the NDC. The other, which is the NPP, contacted me and asked me to bring my ideas on board,” Gyan explained.

With over 20 years of professional football experience, Gyan emphasized that his decision to contribute to the NPP’s manifesto was driven by a desire to use his expertise for the betterment of Ghana, particularly in the sports sector. “Now that I’m no longer an active footballer, I won’t sleep on my ideas. I will use them to help Ghana,” he stated.

When questioned about his political involvement, Gyan clarified that his focus remains on national progress rather than party politics. “My whole career, I have been very neutral. So whatever I’m doing, I’m not doing it for the NPP party. I am doing it for Mother Ghana,” he emphasized.

Gyan also shared advice from his brother, encouraging him to remain focused on serving the nation despite the polarized nature of Ghanaian politics. He noted that criticism often arises from party affiliations. “If anyone insults me, then the person is from the other side. If the person is not NPP, then the person is NDC, because in Ghana, if it’s not NPP, then it’s NDC,” Gyan remarked.

As the chairman of the NPP manifesto committee on sports, Asamoah Gyan urged his fellow citizens to prioritize the nation’s interests over political divisions. “My advice to my friends is to do things that will help the country, not what anyone will say to distract them,” he concluded.

Gyan’s involvement in the NPP manifesto marks a significant shift in his post-football career, signaling his commitment to contributing to Ghana’s development.
