La Homowo Festival Condemned as “Illegal” and “Fake

Daniel Anang Tawiah, Vice Chairman of the Animle We (La Adonteng) family of Labadi, has denounced this year’s La Homowo Festival as “illegal” and “fake”. He emphasized that celebrating the festival without a Paramount Chief is a taboo, stressing that the Paramount Chief’s presence is essential for the festival’s authenticity.

Anang Tawiah explained that the Paramount Chief (Mantse) has the sole right to perform the necessary rituals to commence the festival. Without him, the festival is null and void. He expressed deep concern that if this issue is not addressed, future generations may see no wrong in celebrating Homowo without a King, potentially undermining the festival’s significance and traditions.

Anang Tawiah urged the people of La to be vigilant and question the legitimacy of this year’s festival. He believes that, given the absence of a King, the festival should have been celebrated on a low level or not at all. He emphasized the importance of upholding the traditions and customs surrounding the La Homowo Festival, ensuring its continued relevance and authenticity for generations to come.
