ECG to Replace Outdated Meters Despite Ongoing Customer Complaints

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to replace over 1 million outdated meters, despite ongoing customer complaints about meter issues. According to William Boateng, Director of Communication at ECG, the replacement exercise is part of the company’s digitalization efforts aimed at improving customer experience.

Boateng explained that every electrical gadget has a lifespan, and meters are no exception. He noted that some meters have reached the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced to ensure proper functionality and efficiency.

The new meters will be designed to make it easier for customers to purchase credit and access electricity services through a mobile app. Boateng assured customers that the new meters will be simple to use and will protect customer records and information, which have been compromised in the past.

Addressing customer complaints, Boateng acknowledged issues with meters not communicating properly, leading to incorrect readings and deductions. He clarified that these issues are technical and not intentional, and assured customers that the replacement exercise will resolve these issues and improve overall service delivery.

Boateng urged customers to comply with the replacement exercise, stating that it is necessary for the success of ECG’s digitalization efforts. He assured customers that the new meters will be more efficient and user-friendly.
