NDC Sponsoring Independent Candidates to Split NPP Votes – Wontumi

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’, has cautioned against diverting votes to independent candidates, suggesting that such actions could inadvertently benefit the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Mahama. Speaking at the campaign launch of Andy Appiah Kubi, Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, in Agogo, Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi stressed the importance of party loyalty and unity.

He alleged that the NDC is sponsoring some independent candidates in the Ashanti Region to split NPP votes. “A vote for an independent candidate means handing over power to the NDC and John Mahama,” he warned. Chairman Wontumi called on the independent candidate to return to the NPP, promising a warm welcome.

During the campaign launch, Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh addressed a large crowd, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the NPP’s educational policies, including the free Senior High School (SHS) program. He cautioned against voting for the NDC, warning that it could lead to the cancellation of these policies.

Dr. Prempeh’s remarks come as the 2024 election campaign intensifies, with education policy emerging as a significant battleground. The NPP is presenting its policies to the electorate, with a focus on unity and party loyalty.
