UNCDF Commissions Ultra-Modern Warehouse for Farmers in Effutu

A state-of-the-art warehouse with a capacity of 3500 50kg bags (150 tonnes) has been commissioned for use by farmers in Nsuekyir, Effutu Municipality, Central Region. The project, funded by the Norwegian Government, Local Climate Adaptive Living (LoCal) Facility, and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) through the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, aims to provide a storage facility for farming communities in the municipality.

The warehouse is part of the UNCDF’s Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility project, which promotes green and climate-resilient local economies in Ghana by applying circular economy and climate-smart agriculture principles. The facility features a patio for proper grain handling and drying, as well as a borehole for water provision.

In an address, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, thanked the donors and pledged to ensure the facility’s adequate use to benefit the Effutu people. He noted that post-harvest losses have been a significant challenge for farmers in the area and expressed optimism that the storage facility would help reduce these losses.

A representative of the Minister of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Madam Linda Agyepong, highlighted the project’s components, including the warehouse, water facilities, patio, and training programs for beneficiary women in soap making.

The commissioning of the warehouse is expected to bring relief to farmers in Effutu and adjoining communities, enabling them to maximize their yields and improve their livelihoods.
