Cole Palmer Wins PFA Young Player of the Year Award

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has been crowned the 2023/24 PFA Young Player of the Year, capping off an exceptional season with the prestigious honor. Palmer’s impressive performances for Chelsea earned him the recognition of his peers, who voted him as the best young player of the season.

Palmer’s first season at Stamford Bridge was a resounding success, with the 22-year-old winger scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 games across all competitions. His impressive form in the Premier League saw him score 22 goals and contribute 11 assists in 33 games, earning him a string of personal honors, including Chelsea Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year Award, Premier League Young Player of the Season, and PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year.

Palmer’s talents didn’t go unnoticed on the international stage either. He earned his maiden England call-up in November 2023 and came off the bench in five of England’s seven Euro 2024 games, scoring in the 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final.

Chelsea was keen to secure Palmer’s services for longer, and earlier this month, it was announced that he had signed a two-year contract extension, taking his deal until the summer of 2033.

Palmer beat out a talented group of young players to win the award, including Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, former Chelsea academy player Michael Olise, João Pedro of Brighton and Hove Albion, and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka. He was also nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, which was won by Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
