Manasseh Azure Awuni, author and investigative journalist, has discussed the difficulties he had when wanting to speak with President Akufo-Addo for his upcoming book, “The President Ghana Never Got.”
Major events throughout President Akufo-Addo’s eight-year administration are chronicled in this 400-page book.
He claimed that he attempted to obtain an interview with the President through the President’s cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, but that his attempts were in vain.
He described the events on JoyNews AM Show, saying, “When I was writing this book, my first goal was to talk to President Akufo-Addo. I recall having a conversation with Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, his cousin.
“I had heard from others that the President wasn’t pleased with the job I was producing. “I don’t think he will speak to you,” Gabby responded when I inquired whether we could talk to him. He said, “The President thinks you’ve been mean to him,” when I questioned why.
“But even though I was criticizing former President Mahama, I spoke with him,” he said. “And Gabby responded, ‘People are different and how they process things differs,'” he claimed.

The author claimed that he persevered in spite of this setback.
He claimed that he looked for other options and contacted Ekow Essuman, the President’s attorney, who advised that Mr. Otchere-Darko would be the most qualified individual to persuade the President.
Coming back to Mr. Otchere-Darko, the investigative journalist revealed that he was counseled to write the President first.
But considering the circumstances and his approaching deadline, he made the decision to drop this.
He added that although he was unable to talk with the President personally, he was still able to interview other government officials in-depth, which yielded insightful information.
“I spoke to a number of people within his government who confirmed a lot of things, and I had an extensive interview with Gabby for about two hours, where I asked questions about some of the decisions, the family, among other things,” he stated.
Therefore, I don’t believe that by not talking to the president for this book, I missed anything important. I wish I could have, but the situation did not allow it,” he emphasized.
The 400-page, 40-chapter book “The President Ghana Never Got” chronicles President Akufo-Addo’s presidency.
The journalist said the book includes “revealing and riveting content, which some may find explosive” while announcing its release.
The unveiling would take place on August 8, 2024, in Accra at the Christ the King Parish Hall, which is located next to the Jubilee House.
His most recent work on succeeding governments is this book. Manasseh published a book on the nation’s former president, John Dramani Mahama, titled “The Fourth John: Reign, Rejection & Rebound” in 2016, when he was getting ready to step down.
In a similar vein, the book “The President Ghana Never Got” looks to be an engaging read, providing subtleties that informed some of the present administration’s choices.
