A national yearly highlife music competition is set to be introduced by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and open to all singers of the genre.
This is a component of the union’s plan to elevate highlife music to the top genre in Ghana and increase its global relevance.
Bessa Simons, the president of the union, said in an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show that highlife music is indistinguishable from Ghana and that musicians who pay attention to it have a genuine sense of belonging.
Because of this, MUSIGA has made a commitment to using all available resources to promote the genre and is taking steps to start a yearly national competition for musicians working in the genre.
He disclosed, “Every year, we’re going to start a music competition, and the winner will get something very attractive.”
at addition, Mr. Simons made a suggestion about the union’s intention to back the highlife category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards and guarantee that the winner would find the genre’s pricing to be enticing.
