President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has criticized John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting that he does not deserve to win the upcoming December elections due to a lack of fresh ideas.
During the unveiling of NPP running mate Matthew Opoku Prempeh, President Akufo-Addo highlighted Mahama’s previous track record and his defeat in his bid for reelection as evidence of his unsuitability for the presidency.
Drawing comparisons with former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and himself, Akufo-Addo pointed out that they all completed two terms in office, unlike Mahama, who was not re-elected for a second term.
“Since the 4th Republic, Jerry John Rawlings served two terms, John Agyekum Kufuor also served two terms, and I, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, have been allowed to serve two terms. However, Mahama was rejected for his second term and is now asking for another chance. We won’t consider him for the presidency, either today or tomorrow.”
President Akufo-Addo emphasized Mahama’s lack of new ideas, stating, “He talks as if we don’t know his track record. He has nothing new to offer. We know his track record and he has nothing new for Ghanaians.”
Referring to Mahama’s tenure and subsequent defeat, he added, “We saw what he did during his time in office, which led to his defeat in his second attempt. After realizing he was not fit for the job, why should we vote for him now? We won’t!”
The President’s comments underscore the NPP’s stance on Mahama’s candidacy as the country approaches the December polls.
