39 Gather presidential documents

If all of the candidates submit their papers by the deadline, the Electoral Commission (EC) will receive nominations for both presidential and parliamentary candidates. This year’s presidential ballot paper will be lengthy.
According to a well-placed source at the EC who spoke to the Daily Graphic, 27 people downloaded the presidential forms in addition to the 12 registered political parties. These people intend to run as independent presidential candidates.
But as is customary, not every candidate—including those from various political parties—will turn in their candidacy forms between September 9 and September 13, 2024.
The completed nomination forms for president should be delivered to the EC Head Office between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on a daily basis. The parliamentary nomination forms should be delivered to the EC district offices.
Political organizations
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), and the All People’s Congress (APC) are among the twelve political parties that have accepted the nomination forms.
The remaining parties are the Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), the People’s National Convention (PNC), and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
autonomous candidates
George Twum-Barim-Adu, Samuel Apea-Danquah, Alan K. Kyerematen, Nana Kwame Bediako, Jacob Osei Yeboah, and Richard Sumah are among the independent candidates who obtained passcodes from the EC.
Kofi Koranteng, Desmond Abrefa, Wilberforce Andrews, Nana Stephens, Dr. Agnes Ayisha, Dr. Nii Amu Darko, Rev. Samuel Worlanyo, and T. K. Amenya are the others.
Other names on the list are Nana Ohene Aggrey Bentsil Djan, Tom Asiseh, Stephen Atubiga, Stephen Roy Reindorf, Paul Perkoh, Seth Ntim Agyarko, and Janet Asana Nabla.
Kenneth Kwame Asamoah, Muhammad Abdullah, Tawiah N. Hemans, James Kwasi Oppong, and Isaac Wiafe Ofori are the remaining individuals.
A rejected candidate may file an appeal against the EC’s ruling, and the list of eligible candidates will be released upon the receipt of nominations.
Forms
On August 2, 2024, the EC made the nomination forms available for both parliamentary and presidential candidates on its website. This gave them ample time to complete the forms and make any necessary revisions in the event that they were filled out incorrectly.
According to the source, political parties holding provisional certificates are ineligible to run for office until they receive their official certificates from the European Commission.
Setting
The Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127) Regulations 6, 7, and 8 govern the availability of the forms and the payments that must be paid.
The EC kept the filing fees for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections at GHĀ¢100,000 and GHĀ¢10,000, respectively.
GHĀ¢75,000 is needed for female candidates for president and disabled candidates, whereas GHĀ¢7,500 is needed for female candidates and disabled candidates wishing to run for membership in Parliament (MP).
Forms returned
A candidate for president must submit their nomination on the official commission nomination forms, according to C.I. 127, and each candidate’s completed presidential nomination form must be signed by the candidate and at least two people who were registered voters in each district assembly.
The EC stated in a previous statement that the Vice-President should be named on the completed forms. The presidential candidate or any two registered voters who signed the nomination forms on their behalf must personally deliver the nomination forms, which must be signed in quadruplicate.
“The candidate shall submit four copies of a recent post-card (bust-sized) photograph against a red background showing the full face and ears of the candidate to the Returning Officer in addition to the completed nomination forms,” the EC stated.
The Returning Officer for the presidential election is the Chairperson of the EC.
