2025 budget: Government allocates GH₵200 million to support Tidal wave victims

The Government has allocated GH₵200 million to support victims displaced by tidal waves in communities within the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The communities include Salakope, Agavedzi, Amutsinu and the surrounding communities.
This announcement was made by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, in the 2025 budget presentation on Tuesday.
Dr. Ato Forson further said that government was committed to providing relief and support to victims of natural disasters and allocation of GH₵200 million was a testament to commitment and demonstrated the government’s willingness to help those in need.
“Mr. Speaker, in response to the recent tidal waves resources to the Ministry of Works and Housing to disaster that displaced resident of Agavedzi and surrounding communities in the Ketu South constituency, we have also allocated enough to address the challenge,” he said.
He said the allocation was part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the plight of the victims who were affected by the devastating tidal waves and the support was also a fulfillment of President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to the victims during his visit to the area.
Mr Ebenezer Assah, the Assembly Member of Salakope, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, lauded government for the efforts to put smile in the face of the tidal wave affected persons in the area.
“President John Dramani Mahama during his visit here promised that he will direct finance minister to put our plight in the 2025 budget, and he has fulfilled that and l hope and believe that very soon we will have lasting solution to our challenges.”
Meanwhile, some other affected residents GNA engaged, expressed mixed feeling about the allocated amount which they demanded explanation on what exactly the GH₵200 million would be used for.
Information GNA picked indicates that over 120 people and more than 50 houses were affected by the devastating tidal wave, affecting the Keta-Aflao main road.
Some financial experts, GNA engaged, described the 2025 budget presentation as excellent and demonstrated the government’s commitment to providing relief and support to victims of natural disasters, promoting economic growth and development, and enhancing decentralisation.
