The Chairman of the National Election Security Task Force (NESTF), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued a stern warning to political parties to refrain from employing “machomen” or misusing state security uniforms to intimidate voters during the upcoming elections.

Dr. Dampare cautioned that anyone caught dressing party supporters in state security uniforms would face strict legal consequences. He emphasized that the Task Force is committed to ensuring a peaceful and intimidation-free electoral process, stating, “This culture of machoism, which makes people think that biceps are a measure of strength, will not be tolerated.”

Assuring political parties of impartiality, Dr. Dampare added, “We have brought you here to inform you of our plans so that you won’t say we have taken sides.”

Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), affirmed his party’s commitment to adhering to the directives issued by the Task Force. Similarly, Evans Nimako, Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), pledged the NPP’s compliance with the rules. Representatives from other political parties, including the Convention People’s Party (CPP), also expressed their support for the guidelines.

The Task Force’s firm stance underscores its dedication to ensuring a fair and secure electoral environment.
