Tema Oil Refinery Set for Revival: Energy Minister Offers Assurance

The Energy Minister, Herbert Krapa, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), a vital component of Ghana’s energy sector. The minister’s assurance comes as a beacon of hope for the refinery, which has faced significant challenges in recent years.

According to Minister Krapa, the government will provide the necessary support to secure a strategic partner for TOR within the next 90 days. This partnership is expected to bring in much-needed capital, technology, and efficiency to revamp the refinery’s operations.

The Managing Director of TOR, Kofi Tagoe Mocumbi, has also announced that the refinery is on track to complete the process of securing a strategic investor within the next three months. This move is expected to generate revenue for the state and secure employment for the refinery’s staff.

The Energy Minister emphasized that TOR requires urgent attention, highlighting the need for immediate intervention in areas such as the terminal, pipelines, laboratories, and storage. These “low-hanging fruits” must be made to work efficiently and fully to create revenue, paving the way for the smooth entry of a strategic investor.

The revival of TOR is a significant step towards enhancing Ghana’s energy security and reducing reliance on imported petroleum products. With the government’s assurance and support, the refinery is poised to regain its position as a key player in the country’s energy sector.
